Lasiodora parahybana, known as the Salmon Pink Birdeater Tarantula. This belongs to a New World Tarantula endemic to North Easter Brazil. The most common spider that people keep as pets is the Salmon Pink Birdeater Tarantula. In some ways, they might seem like a pretty boring choice for a pet because they can’t fetch or take them out for a walk. They are great fun to watch and it is a great learning experience. It is a fun dog for people to own because it lends itself well to training and is easy to handle.
Spiders are unconventional pets that don’t really do much. Before you bring any tarantula into your home, you need to know more about its history, health issues, temperament, and feeding needs. Though Lasiodora parahybana tarantula is large, its venom is not known to be medically significant. So its fangs would probably hurt more than the venom.
The hairs in this species are similar to those of other New World species, but they are very uncomfortable. This species doesn’t mind your presence, but it may still kick off a few hairs if it feels threatened. This Salmon tarantula is known for kicking hair on its webbing around its burrow. If you’re emptying out the substrate while cleaning an enclosure, moving substrate around in the enclosure, or removing the unwanted substrate.
Salmon pink bird-eating tarantulas are bold and will fight if necessary but are not aggressive or territorial. These spiders become less violent as they get mature and seldom get into fights. You will find they do not want to fight even if you use your best tactic against them. In fact, these spiders have evolved to protect themselves against their enemies.
Housing for Salmon Pink Birdeater Tarantula
House tarantulas are often placed in an enclosure made of acrylic. This species tends to prefer to burrow deep so we typically use an enclosure that is taller than longer but fill it at least 2/3rds of the way up with substrate so there is more length, or as much length, as there is height. This is a tube sponge. It was recommended for growing fungus gnat larvae and can be used for many other things as well. A tube sponge is a good option for any type of tarantula and has many uses besides the ones mentioned above.
For adult terrariums, use at least four inches of substrate. We use 4 inches of the substrate; we use a mix of peat moss, vermiculite, coconut fiber, and dirt for firmness; as the substrate. This slingshot gives the sling a lot of flexibility in terms of size. This allows it to climb through tight spaces and burrow deep into its target. This sling keeps the humidity of the substrate optimal for the animal. It also provides a layer of dry substrate on the top to help keep moisture off the substrate.
After the sling is attached to a new infant, we move it into one of two types of juvenile acrylic enclosures. One is a 4x4x4 box with top and side ventilation that we use for the slings that spent most of their time deep in their burrows. We’re not going to start watering these until they’ve been established for a week or so, and we will probably let them dry out and get a little bit drier during that period of time.
Growth and Reproduction
This is the perfect time for the male Lasiodora parahybana to develop his finger for when he will be ready to mate with the female. When he does, he will use this finger to hook and lock the female’s fangs and support himself while he mates. After mating, males of many species die within a few months. The female must have recently molted in order to reproduce, or the sperm will be lost during the molt. Mating takes place between male and female frogs, after which the female makes a web in which she lays 50 to 200 eggs that become fertilized as they pass out of her body. In most other spiders the females carry the egg sacs, but in the Salmon pink tarantula the female lays eggs that are about the size of a small grape and contain up to 75 spiderlings.
Tarantulas must go through several molts in order to grow. Molting is the process by which a tarantula sheds its old exoskeleton and emerges in a new, larger one. They’ll molt up to six times in your first year as a spiderling. A tarantula takes around two to three years to reach maturity. This T is an omnivorous eater at any stage of growth. You’ll find that as a spiderling you’re fed pre-killed small crickets, which will make them grow bigger. Once their abdomens become too big, they’ll start eating one small cricket at a time.
Juvenile tarantula is fed 3-4 medium crickets a week until they no longer show interest in eating. If we give more food a week to some crickets that are looking a bit skinny or fewer to those that appear to be getting chunky, they will get better over time. The adult pink salmon tarantula diets include at least 10 large crickets per week and possibly 20 or more, more or less depending on appetite and size of the abdomen, and switch it up occasionally with large super worms, green hornworms, or a few large dubia roaches. As soon as you put a vertebrate in its bowl it makes a mess.
So, if you’re not cleaning up the mess quickly then there is a real risk of problems with mold and mites. While they are good pets, feeding your pink tarantula is best left for fun, but once in a while you may try feeding them small lizards to see if you and your lizards enjoy it.
We should feed a water dish to the tarantula every day. We should also dampen one-half of the substrate in the terrarium, by overfilling the watering dish, then we should allow it to dry
Salmon Pink Birdeater Tarantula as Pet
This large, hardy, and beautiful tarantula stays on display most of the time as an adult. They are not aggressive or defensive, but you wouldn’t want to handle them for a couple of different reasons. The main reason is that they have nasty hairs that would be miserable to get kicked on your skin or brushed off onto it. Tarantulas can be dangerous creatures to be around but they are actually very docile. And do not usually move for no reason when you are just watching them in their enclosure. Handle your tarantula at your own risk and at your own possible peril. These are another great staple in the hobby and they’re usually available and affordable.
Tarantulas are one of the most popular arachnids to keep as pets, and for good reason. Lasiodora parahybanas are the largest spider species on the planet, and their size makes them a real spectacle to watch. While they are known for being a bit temperamental and aggressive, these spiders also make excellent pets. They are easy to care for and are a great source of entertainment. There are many different types of tarantulas, each with its own distinct characteristics.
Cost of Lasiodora parahybana
Salmon Pink Birdeater Tarantula is not so expensive to purchase compared to other Tarantulas. The price for a healthy adult pink bird eater tarantula ranges from $15 to $150, depending on where you buy it. Females tend to typically sell for more than males because of their longer lifespans. Tarantulas may be small spiders, but you can easily determine their sex as a tarantula hatchling.
It is advisable to go for a younger captive-bred tarantula specimen, though. This is because children are adaptable, and they are less likely to become agitated or stressed. But if they are given a fresh environment and if they are offered more freedom than would be appropriate for adults. It will allow you to watch them grow, and they will get used to being around people.
